Pursuit of Excellence Leadership and Mentoring Program

When plumber William Henry Wylie wrote his Last Will and Testament in 1974 he had in mind the very industry from which he had derived his living.

A $20,000 bequest on the condition that the funds work 'for the furtherment of knowledge and advancement of technologies in plumbing' was a legacy that started a tradition and has today seen the development of the Australian Plumbing Industries Educational Foundation under the auspices of the Master Plumbers' and Mechanical Services Association of Australia.

Since its inception the Foundation has been true to Wylie's original sentiment.  The aim has always been to aid the cultivation and retention of knowledge and experience within the plumbing industry's existing workforce, in order to inform and educate.

Consolidating the Foundation's program and adding value to plumbers and their businesses, the Foundation which was formed in 1992 has progressed from the original overseas scholarship program with the decision to encourage business growth and success through the Pursuit of Excellence Leadership and Mentoring Program.

The newly developed Program will enable the ongoing development of plumbers and plumbing businesses, and will also allow those actively involved in plumbing, the opportunity to give back to the industry.

The Foundation will be at the forefront of the plumbing industry, creating opportunities for training as well as acknowledgment and recognition of skills, passion, commitment and business acumen.

The Australian Plumbing Industries Educational Foundation (APIEF) is offering a MPMSAA plumber an opportunity to "turn the dream of running a successful business into reality".  This scholarship is available for the take-up in 2010 and is designed to give a plumber the chance to develop their skills and experience through a combination of classroom training and individual coaching/mentoring.

Candidates will be chosen from within MPMSAA members who are prepared to afford the time in undertaking the initial nationally accredited management course.  The outstanding candidate from the course must be prepared to continue with further management education and must support the Association by participating on the various committees as well as act as a spokesperson for the Association and patrons of the Foundation.  In turn this will benefit industry as a whole.

Each year, the Foundation will acknowledge and assist plumbers who are keen to turn the dream of running a successful business into a reality by acknowledging their efforts through the Pursuit of Excellence Leadership and Mentoring Program.
