First Aid Level 2: HLTFA301B Apply First Aid

Introduction

This unit specifies the outcomes required to provide first aid in a range of settings to manage the incident and response, and communicate with others involved in the treatment or response.

This unit covers the application of skills and knowledge in an emergency in the workplace where first aid treatment options are applied. It is about assessing the situation, providing first aid to the casualty, co-ordinating first aid until arrival of medical aid assistance, communicating details of the incident to others involved in treatment, and evaluating the incident after the event to learn from the situation activities. This course runs for 16 hours

Course Content:

The following will be covered during the two days:

  • Introduction - Infection Control - Calling for an ambulance
  • The emergency scene - Conscious/Unconscious Casualty
  • C.P.R. – Semi Automatic Defibrillation
  • First Aid in the Workplace - Documentation
  • Shock – Bleeding
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Burns
  • Bites and Stings
  • Poisons
  • Heat and Cold
  • Head, Neck and Spinal Injuries
  • Fractures
  • Sprains – Strains – Dislocations
  • Eye Management
  • Substance Abuse
  • Needle Stick Injuries

On successful completion of the course each student will be presented with a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment.

Assessment Criteria:

The design of this course is competency based; students will be assessed as they progress through the course. As you work through and manage the casualty to the best of your ability you will be assessed at the same time. This method also allows us the opportunity to note any areas that you have difficulty with and give us time to help you improve or understand the situation better.
