Air-Conditioning - Plumber’s Responsibility In Relation To The Design Of Plumbing Work
For Members needing clarification on the issue of the plumber’s responsibilities in ensuring air-conditioning works with the design of a room/building
The following advice is based on the definition of plumbing as regulated in the State of
Victoria only, and based on the scope and intent of plumbing as regulated work under Part 12A of the Building Act 1993, and the subordinate legislation to that Act, Plumbing Regulations 2008 (Regulations).
A licensed plumbing practitioner has a responsibility to ensure that the plumbing work they are installing complies with all plumbing laws and makes this statement when they sign a Compliance Certificate in relation to their work.
The design is an integral component of any successful installation of plumbing work, including the fact that this work achieves its intended purpose.
When a licensed plumbing practitioner completes the installation of plumbing work, including developing or accepting the design, it remains a requirement that the plumbing work complies with all relevant plumbing codes and standards and that the installation will achieve its intended purpose.
It is the obligation of the licensed plumbing practitioner to take reasonable steps to assess any design they intend to rely on and if they are of the belief that the design of the plumbing work is deficient, to purse this matter prior to installing and certifying the plumbing work.
